Speedy galaxy evolution

چکیده
The processes that transformed small, turbulent, relatively unstructured protogalaxies into rotating spiral or giant elliptical galaxies are not well understood. Most expected to go through a spiral-like phase, maturing an structure. Many local have classic disk of young stars as “bulge” older red at their centers; these two features considered be signatures evolved from original primordial forms. Unfortunately, challenging directly detect, particularly in the very distant (i.e., early) Universe. On page 713 this issue, Lelli et al. (1) report galaxy had (both and bulge) when only 1.2 billion years elapsed since Big Bang (?12.5 ago) (see figure). This finding suggests generate key mature arose more rapidly than has been thought.

Galaxy Evolution with Alma
The submillimeter and millimeter domains are privileged for the exploration of galaxies at high redshift, because of the negative K-correction: the peak of the dust emission at 60-100 microns is red-shifted in these domains. Already blind surveys in blank fields with today instrumentation have discovered in the continuum of the order of one object per square arcmin, with large limitations due t...
متن کاملGalaxy Evolution: an Overview
We review recent ideas on the evolution of galaxies. Two models are competing to explain the observational features: the monolithic model in which galaxies assemble at high redshift, and evolve with little influence from the environment, and the hierarchical model in which small galaxies progressively assemble to form bigger objects. We describe the basic features of the model of hierarchical f...
